PXE Booting Issues with Symantec Ghost Server
We currently have a working Symantec Ghost server that is being used for PXE booting with legacy BIOS clients. This is also being done in a "Forced" mode configuration, without the help of any IP helpers. While this is not advisable according to Microsoft, this has been working for us and others for a number of years now, and we are not looking to replace this. The PXE server (Ghost), DHCP, and clients are all across separate subnets and are booting completely fine.
We are in the process of testing UEFI boot as well, however we are testing this in our test environment with VMs inside an ESXi host to prevent any outages caused by messing with the production DHCP server. The test environment has its own DHCP server and clients in the same subnet, and the PXE server remains the one in production.
We have mirrored the DHCP options (06,08,60,66,67) (yes 43 can be used in place of 06 & 08, same results are seen) from our production DHCP server to the test one, and when we attempt to boot a VM from PXE, we are receiving the following error: "PXE-E74 No MAN_INFO or OS_INFO options found".
06 - discovery protocol
08 - boot servers in hex
60 - Class Identifier
66 - boot server IP
67 - BStrap\x64\BStrap.0
The PXE booting client is receiving an IP from our test DHCP server, and appears to be successfully reaching the PXE server as we can see "Symantec Network Boot Service. X86PC PreBoot, PXE-2.x Enhanced", followed by about 1.5 lines of dots (............). Eventually, this will time out and we are shown the error above. The client then boots into the OS from local hard drive.
I've reviewed just about every article from broadcom, did a ton of Google Fu, and still cannot get this to work. Links below for guides being used (which were used for production implementation of PXE booting). Additionally, ACLs have been defined to allow the traffic to the PXE server. Once these were created, we were able to see the error above (as well as PXE server information which proves connectivity).
Any thoughts?
