I followed a guide to get chimera working without my USB it worked, but in the process I used an FDisk command on the wrong disk and now my windows partition shows as FDisk in the diskutil list in terminal and my win 8 install has bcd errors. is there any way to fix this? EDIT: fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk'X' (Replace 'X' with drive number)

[iPad] Using the CCK with IOS8 and Windows

Hi, I just thought I'd share how I use the IOS 8 CCK with Windows. IOS8 introduced a problem with using the CCK in IOS 8. Mainly the fact that it can't mount FAT32 formatted drives. This presents a problem with sneakernet-ing a removable (in my case a microSD card) drive when working with Windows systems. Here is my workaround:
  • Format the drive with 2 partitions (1st as NTFS or FAT32, at least 50MB in size), 2nd as HFS+ (using the remainder of the drive)
    • I used Linux to do this (GParted) , but you can use Windows (fdisk, or any other partitioning program that allows creating HFS+ partitions. Is Partition Magic Pro still a thing? :S)
    • I also made the 1st partition 1GB, just in case. 50MB should be enough if you only want enough space for the programs in the next steps.
  • Download and put Paragon's HFS+ driver installer on the 1st partition (they have a 10-day trial for you to use)
  • Download RMPrepUSB (portable version), unzip it, and put the contents on the same partition
  • With both of those on the 1st partition, you're ready to go!
When you need to use the removable drive with a Windows PC, follow these steps:
  • Insert the drive into the Windows PC
  • Windows will see the 1st partition (the one with the HFS+ driver and RMPrepUSB program folder). Windows will always only recognize the first partition on the drive (that's just how it is right now). If the HFS+ partition is the 1st on the drive, it won't show up in Windows (unless the HFS+ driver is installed).
  • Copy both of those to the Windows PC (I put both into a folder called "SD Card Tools")
  • Install the HFS+ driver. It will make you reboot.
  • After reboot, go to the RMPrepUSB folder and run the RMPREPUSB.EXE program.
  • A window should open. Press CTRL+O to open a dialog box asking which partition should be first recognized. (Alternatively, you can use the menus. Just check each menu and you'll see one choice that uses CTRL+O as a shortcut)
  • Type 2 in the box (2＝the HFS+ partition). Read the choices and you'll see what I mean. "1" should be the FAT32 partition, "2" should be the HFS+ partition.
  • Press OK
  • Press OK again (It's just a confirmation alert)
  • When it's done, you will have access to the HFS+ partition on the removable drive.
  • Add files to the drive, as usual
  • When you're done, go back to the RMPREPUSB.EXE program and repeat the CTRL+O and type "2" steps again. This isn't necessary, but it prepares the drive for the next time you may need it for a new Windows PC.
  • After that, plug in the drive into your iPad/CCK and iFile will mount it. You should see the files on the drive. (You can also use Filza to navigate to the drive by going to /vamnt/mount1 , but I don't think Filza can umount the drive, if needed)
I like to use this method because I don't like plugging in my iPad to random computers. It also helps when I don't have a reliable network connection, or the connection is slow. Plus, if your iPad doesn't have enough storage to act as a go-between (PC->iPad->SD Card, mostly for 16GB devices) it helps a lot.
Note: I use a 64GB microSD card in an SD Card adapter in the Apple SDCard->Lightning adapter, but it should work with a thumb drive, too.
This works on Windows 7 and 8.
