[GarageBand Question] Why don't the Piano Roll and Score match the way I think they should? (X-Post from /r/GarageBand)
I'm just getting used to GarageBand, and have no real training with this kind of thing, so sorry if I get any GarageBand Terminology wrong.
tl;wr: I'd like to know either how to change what note value I'm inputting in the Score tab in the Editors panel, or how to correct the inconsistencies in the Piano Roll tab (same panel).
In any case, I am trying to put in sheet music onto a software instrument in GarageBand. I set my instrument, tempo, key signature, and key, double click the instrument to open the piano roll, and switch to the Score tab.
I put in my first note (the length of which (1/8 note/quaver) was chosen for me seemingly at random), and then switch to the Piano Roll. I then see that 1/8 note (quaver) = 2 of those little spaces. Great! I can just add the rest of the melody by adding notes through the Piano Roll and not have to figure out how to change note length in the Score tab.
The problem is, looking back at the Score tab shows different notes than the sheet music I am trying to transcribe. It's mostly the same, meaning that it shows two tied 1/8 notes (quavers) for a 1/4 note (crotchet), but somewhere where I thought I was supposed to see a dotted 1/4 note (crotchet), the score showed a 1/2 note (minim).
The melody plays well enough, but I'd like to know, either how to change what note value I'm inputting in the Score tab, or how to correct the inconsistencies in the Piano Roll tab.
Thank you so much.
