The Beta for Road to the Olympics is terrible.
If we compare the beta for Road to the Olympics with the open beta for the base game back in November last year, we have to be honest that it really doesn't come close. The Japan massif looks great, especially with all the slopes and the powder nearby. I also already really like the olympic events.
The actual problem with the beta though is that it doesn't really feel like playing Steep. I can't just go out and explore the mountains. I have three challenges, one wingsuit, two snowboarding, and that's it. I cannot stop, I cannot go by foot, I can't switch sports AT ALL.
On top of that everytime I open up mountain view I get the same ad, with the same user prompt if I'd like to buy the DLC (I already did anyways :( ). It's frustrating and irritating to say at least.
The Road to the Olympics Beta just feels way too restrictive. I remember when I started the beta for the base game and was blown away by how much freedom I have in this massive world. It felt like an open world game. Almost a little bit sandboxy, in the sense of "I can do anything here". Unfortunatelly in the Japan beta I'm crammed into three challenges and some olympic events. Most of the latter even locked with the message "Buy the full version of the game" (which I do already own of course), which upon clicking only opens up the uplay overlay and nothing else can be done.
Don't get me wrong here: I do think the DLC will be great, I preordered it already and am awaiting it eagerly.
BUT the beta doesn't do the game or even the DLC justice I'm afraid.
TL;DR: I downloaded almost 10GB to play about 6 challenges and an obnoxious ad. Now I have no freedom of choice on what to do or how to do it. Bad ubisoft :(
edit: seems like playing the beta killed my statistics. Most of you might not care about statistic infos shown in uplay, but I'm kind of bummed out about it :(
